Final Heisman post 10

8 out of the last 9 Heisman trphy winners have been quarterbacks. Although three runningbacks are atop the Heisman watch list right now by the end of the season I see this changing. It is much tougher for runningbacks to maintain stats than it is for quarterbacks. Therefore my final predicction for the three finalists are Bama RB Mark Ingram, Florida QB Tim Tebow and Texas QB Colt McCoy. I ultimately believe that McCoy will win the award and have the best statistics at the end of the year.

Stats or Strength of schedule? post 9

When it comes to selecting a winner for the Heisman trophy, many experts are looking at players statistics while others look at the players schedule and amount of wins that they have. If it was based only on statistics then Jimmy Clausen would still be the leading quarterback on the Heisman watch list. The reason I bring this up is because of Boise State QB Kellen Moore. Moore has much better stats than Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy who are both in front of him on the Heisman watch list. He is also on an undefeated team just like McCoy and Tebow, he just plays a much weaker schedule than the both of them which is why he is below them on the list. In my personal opinion I hink schedule should be factored into who wins the award. If you are playing against better competition it is much tougher to gain impressive stats.

Tim Tebow should not win the heisman post 8

The quarterback of last years national championship team and the most famous name in college football is TIm Tebow. Coming into this season Tebow was the favorite to win the Heisman having already won it in 2008. Despite not having stellar stats in ’09 Tebow is still the top ranked QB on the Heisman watch list. In my opinion if any QB gets the award it should be Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, McCoy has almost 1,000 more passing yards and 7 more touchdowns. Also McCoy’s Texas team has the same undefeated record as Tebow’s Florida team.

After a disappointing loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday by Notre Dame and a poor performance by Jimmy Clausen, Clausen basically killed any chance that he had to win the Heisman memorial trophy. So I am now at this point turning my support from Clausen to someone else. The leading 3 candidates on ESPN’s heisman watch now are all 3 runningback’s, Alabama’s Mark Ingram, Stanford’s Toby Gerhart, and Clemson’s C.J. Spiller. I feel like if Clausen is going to drop in the standings because of the losses his team has, then C.J. Spiller and toby Gerhart should not be mentioned in the conversation because of the amount of losses their teams have. Therefore Mark Ingram of undefeated Alabam should be the clear cut favorite for this year’s Heisman race.

Tonight at 8 pm on ESPN Notre Dame will take on 12th ranked Pittsburgh. This game could be the last real chance that Jimmy Clausen gets to prove himself as a legitimate Heisman candidate. This is the last ranked team that Notre Dame will face all year and the game will be broadcasted nationally in prime time. If Clausen is able to put together a good game and get a win at Pittsburgh, he may just be right back in the mix of the Heisman race.

Despite throwing for a career high in yardage against Navy, Jimmy Clausen still dropped in ESPN’s Heisman watch list. The good news for Clausen though is he will be able to prove himself this weekend against a highly ranked Pittsburgh team. If Clausen is able to lead Notre Dame to a victory this weekend in Pittsburgh and perform well, he should be right back in the thick of things for the Heisman race. But if not he may slide even more proving the fact that he is unable to win in big situations.

Twenty four hours after their loss to Navy Jimmy Clausen still remains in third place in ESPN’s race for the Heisman. According to the website though Clausen’s stock is down because of the costly turnovers he had late in the game. Both of these turnovers in my opinion were not Clausen’s fault. Tim Tebow who remains ahead of Clausen in the Heisman watch only passed for 208 yds and one TD on Saturday whereas Clausen had 452 yds and 2 TD’s. And apparently Tebow’s stock is up. Doesn’t make alot of sense to me.

Notre Dame was defeated by Navy today 23-21. Despite the losing effort quarterback Jimmy Clausen managed to throw for 452 yards and 2 touchdowns. Clausen was not given much of a chance to do a lot because of the fact that the Navy triple option offense kept the high powered Irish offense off of the field. Hopefully the fact that Clausen’s team is losing does not prevent him from continuing to be atop the Heisman candidate conversation.

It is the 3rd quarter of the Notre Dame v. Navy game and Notre Dame is down 14-0. Clausen has not been himself today and has not put up the stats that he has usually that have made him a Heisman candidate. But the Notre dame offense is not getting too many opportunities with Navy’s offense chewing up a lot of clock. Will check in at the end of the game.

Throughout the 2009 season Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen has consistantly been putting up big numbers game by game. Coming into the 2009 college football season, Clausen was not even on many people’s radars as far as being a Heisman quarterback. The three main QB candidates were 2008 winner Sam Bradford, 2007 winner Tim Tebow, and Texas QB Colt McCoy. But with a season ending injury to Bradford, and quality play from Clausen this season and in last year’s Hawaii Bowl the door was open for Clausen to get his name in the 2009 Heisman trophy race.
